Hood Witches

City witches sun bathing on barrio rooftops

City witches reading cards among the sirens

City witches finding stillness in constant motion

Hood witches chewing gum

Cooking tostones on a campstove

Hood witches in high-waist jean shorts and lace bandeaus

Hood witches in larimar and rainbow hematite

Hood witches with pyrite and jade souls

Hood witches with black cats prowling fifth floor walk-ups

Hood witches tuning out

whistles, cat calls, boy brawls against red brick

Hood witches taking up space

Brujas feeding light into

larimar throat

jade heart

tiger eye root

Brujas letting it all roll of their backs

Strong enough to carry it

Too self-loving to bother.
